Let’s Try Capitalism

I wrote a little piece on the Austrian theory of the business cycle for Doublethink Online. Check it out.

Since I’m no expert in Austrian economics, to say the least, I asked Jeffrey Tucker of the Mises Institute to read it over before it was published, which he graciously agreed to do, for which I am very grateful. What a nice guy!

    Good one!

I have no hopes for the call in your final paragraph. Embracing Austrian economics means decentralization, which isn’t in the movement conservative playbook.

Elihu, I’m pessimistic about that too. I don’t hold out any hope for, say, National Review taking up the Austrian standard any time soon.

But there are a lot of well-meaning, small government types who identify with movement conservatism because the Limbaugh types seem to respect their “values.” (Some even work in DC, believe it or not.) Hopefully some other voices can break through and reach these people.
